Leafs Winger Jason Blake has been chosen as the Toronto nominee for the 2008 Bill Masterton Trophy. Blake was nominated for the award by the Toronto chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. The Masterton trophy is awarded to a player who demonstrates perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.AM640 Toronto RADIO - CFMJAM - CFMJAMBlake was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia just weeks after he had joined the Leafs, but has not missed a game to date this season. Coach Paul Maurice says he has not noticed a change in Blake since the diagnosis.
"He certainly has been the same player today as he was on day one," says Maurice. "I don't think anybody knows what he has to go through, clearly physically, but maybe more importantly mentally what you have to deal with when you have an event like that in your life."
